Male Snowy Owls in winter venture from the sandy beaches of L.I. from far north of the Arctic Circle. They have many names including the Polar owl, Arctic owl, Scandinavian night bird, great white owl, and terror of the north. They are listed as vulnerable by (IUCN) International Union for Conservation of Nature. They keep warm with their abundance of feathers which makes them the heaviest owls in North America.
